Ramada Hotel & Suites Sioux Falls hosts annual MDA Telethon

Aug. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Comedian Jerry Lewis’ presence will be missed at this year’s national Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon, which seeks donations to fight muscular dystrophy.

Lewis, who had been the national host and chairman for the telethon since 1966, announced his resignation from the event this August. However, this year’s event will include an all-star lineup including “American Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe, actress Alison Sweeney, and “Entertainment Tonight” correspondents Jann Carl and Nancy O’Dell.

Sioux Falls’ version of the MDA Telethon event will take place in conjunction with the national event. KSFY will broadcast the event live from Ramada Hotel & Suites Sioux Falls on Sunday, Sept. 4. The telethon will run from 6 p.m. to midnight.

“We’re always honored to be a part of such a wonderful event,” said Jean Hoesing, general manager of Ramada Hotel & Suites Sioux Falls. The Sioux Falls hotel hosts the event in its top-notch conference facility.

According to KSFY, Sioux Falls residents have already donated more than $24,000 to the MDA through July’s “Fill the Boot” campaign. Firefighters collected contributions outside six Hy-Vee stores throughout the city, and all money raised will help local children with muscular dystrophy.

Since its inception, the national telethon has raised over $2 billion to fight muscular dystrophy – a group of inherited disorders that involve muscle weakness and loss of muscle tissue. Additional information about the Muscular Dystrophy Association can be found at http://www.mdausa.org/.
