Boston Evening Therapy Associates announces Sara Lafkas, LICSW joins their practice in Brookline,MA

Aug. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Boston Evening Therapy Associates, LLC, a counseling center located in the Brookline Village area, is pleased to announce that Sara Lafkas, LICSW, Ed.M. has joined as an affiliate and is now accepting counseling referrals.

Sara Lafkas received her MSW from the University of Washington, School of Social Work and her Bachelor’s degree from University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), where she majored in Psychology with a Specialization in Education. She has also been working towards her doctoral degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.  During her time as a doctoral student, she has earned an additional Master’s Degree in Risk and Prevention—Early Childhood, and completed an outside certificate program in Traumatic Stress Studies. She expects to graduate with her Ed.D. in Human Development and Psychology in May of 2012.

Sara additionally has a variety of relevant work experience, which includes past employment as a public child welfare worker, a community mental health clinician, and as an elementary school teacher. This work allowed her to interact with many families experiencing times of crisis and life transitions. In doing so, she developed skills that enable her to provide parenting support and treatment for traumatic stress.  
Sara provides therapy primarily to adults, children, and families, with areas of specialization that include impacts of parental divorce, women’s mental health, relationship stressors/anxieties, professional transitions, and concerns related to spirituality and faith development.  She uses a variety of theoretical perspectives based on her doctoral training that have broader clinical applications in her work with clients. Sara’s orientation to therapy is primarily cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused, but also draws upon relational-cultural, psychodynamic, and adult development theories.
Above all, Sara believes that choosing to enter into a therapeutic relationship is a courageous decision and a first step towards healing and bringing about positive changes. She strives to create an atmosphere of support, empathy, and compassion that facilitates the long-term growth her clients seek.
