Similar to Design District, an annual event in Fairfield County produced by Moffly Media, the Chamber has designed a kickoff stroll event from 6pm – 9pm that will drive foot traffic into stores and participating restaurants the night before Prix Fixe menus go into effect.
During the stroll titled “Taste of the Town” participants will donate an item to the New Canaan Food Pantry in exchange for an opportunity to win give-a-ways provided by sponsors including American Airlines. Designated donation drop off locations where participants will be able to pick up their stroll map and begin are; New Canaan Chamber of Commerce table at 91 Elm St. Gates Restaurant, Baskin and Robbins, New Balance and The Pine Social Restaurant.
Prizes include but are not limited to; two round trip business class tickets to Europe or South America courtesy of American Airlines, a 16 inch pearl necklace with a gold clasp (retail value $600) provided by L'Armoire, cashmere cable knit crew neck Ralph Lauren sweater, four Broadway tickets to Mary Poppins donated by Clear Channel New Haven, $50.00 gift certificates to participating restaurants.
To become eligible all “stroll maps” must be hole-punched at designated location and returned to Chamber Executive Director, Tucker Murphy by 9:00 pm on Thursday, August 25th. The evening will conclude with a live drawing and the grand prize give-a-way of two round trip business class tickets to either Europe or South America courtesy of American Airlines.
Local businesses joining the restaurant week kick-off celebration include; Aetheria Relaxation Spa, Baskin Robbins, Belgique Chocolatier, Caren Forbes, DEANE, Design Solutions, Francos Wine Merchants, L’Armoire, New Balance, Pimlico, Ralph Lauren, Red Grape Wine & Spirits, Wave and will be hosting in store events during the Taste of the Town stroll.
Stroll attendees can expect various promotions including but not limited to; a preview of the new Elm Restaurant menu at Ralph Lauren, savings at Belgique Chocolatier available during the duration of restaurant week, food tasting and book signing with The SoNo Baking Company owner John Barricelli at Design Solutions, wine tastings at Francos Wine Merchants and Red Grape Wine & Spirits, cocktails and cupcake decorating at Wave, registration for the 5k Race for Autism (taking place at 6p the following day) at New Balance, 10% off ladies fashions and accessories at Caren Forbes and a Mexican Happy Hour at the DEANE design showroom featuring complimentary tacos and margaritas by resident chef, Julia Deane of Culinary Works 6 PM – 7:30 PM.
