Celebrating September in South County

Summer is South County, RI’s favorite season and we make sure to enjoy it as long as possible. A mere calendar change from August to September does not deter our avid beachgoers, festival and music fans.

PRLog - Aug. 17, 2011 - WAKEFIELD, R.I. -- Summer is South County, RI’s favorite season and we make sure to enjoy it as long as possible. A mere calendar change from August to September does not deter our avid beachgoers, festival and music fans.
No matter the weather or time of year, the beauty and diversity of South County is a draw to visitors and residents alike all year, notes the South County Tourism Council. September and October provide an opportunity to unwind after the busy summer season, but enjoy all that South County has to offer.

Rhythm and Roots Festival
The music and mood of New Orleans comes north Labor Day weekend for the Rhythm and Roots Festival at Ninigret Park in Charlestown, RI, where the music is as spicy as the food and the dancing is non-stop.
With a lineup of bands playing music from Zydeco and Cajun to New Orleans R&B, swing, Americana, folk and roots, Rhythm and Roots is a must-attend for music fans. This singing, dancing, gastronomic send off to summer in South County, Rhode Island kicks up its heels Sept. 2 – 4, 2011.

Misquamicut Beach Fall Festival
The lights of the midway continue to burn brightly in Misquamicut Beach for the annual Fall Festival Sept. 16-18.
Classic rock bands open the festival along with a fireworks display Fri., Sept. 16.
The International Outdoor Food Festival and Beer and Wine Garden offer local delicacies such as lobster, craft brews and Rhode Island wines in addition to the midway fare.  
The weekend entertainment features the Original Stars of Blues Image, Iron Butterfly, Steppenwolf and The Knack.
The Classic Car Show provides automobile fans an opportunity to examine a varied selection of cars from antiques to muscle cars.
Runners take to the road on Sept. 18 during the Surftown Half Marathon. The half-marathon starts at Misquamicut and loops through scenic Weekapaug and Watch Hill. The finish line is back at Misquamicut Beach.

Narragansett’s Summer’s End Festival
Long known as a summer community, Narragansett offers a one-day send off to the season during its Summer’s End Festival Sunday, Sept. 18 noon-5 p.m. at Narragansett Town Beach.
Chowder and clam cakes top the menu offerings, along with sausage and peppers, hot dogs and burgers, pizza and ice cream.
A Kite Flying Demonstration will provide colorful sights as Brass Attack entertains with a concert on the beach from 2-4 p.m.
