Faroe Islands Host Vestnorden Travel Mart, 13-15 September 2011

This year’s travel mart offers a unique opportunity to hear a top global futurist

Aug. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- The Faroe Islands are very proud to host this year’s Vestnorden Travel Mart. The annual two-day event provides a forum for the three West Nordic countries – Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands – to showcase their cultural histories and captivating landscapes to travel trade members from all over the world. Unique travel experiences will be highlighted and there will be excellent opportunities for networking. In addition, there will be the chance to meet an internationally-known futurist, Anne Lise Kjær of Kjær Global.

Says Hildur Durhuus of inbound tour operator in the Faroe Islands, Greengate: “We are looking forward greatly to welcoming delegates to this year’s Vestnorden Travel Mart, a compact and focused event designed to increase awareness of three fascinating Nordic countries.”

Destination Vestnorden:

• Faroe Islands
A remote collection of 18 islands located 300 km north of Scotland, halfway between Iceland and Norway. Lush valleys, green mountains, volcanic rock, lakes, waterfalls and streams form a magical landscape ideal for hiking. The tiny capital of Tórshavn, with its ninth-century grass-roofed buildings and Faroese wool fashion boutiques, is quirky, and the island of Nólsoy is home to the world’s largest colony of storm petrel birds.

• Iceland
Full of natural wonders, Iceland boasts Europe’s largest glacier (Vatnajökull), lava landscapes, and spectacular fjords and spouting hot springs; it is alive with volcanic and geothermal activity - the raw environment is changing constantly. Natural hot water supplies much of the population with pollution-free heating, whilst hydro-electric power is produced from tapping into rivers. Enjoy pristine nature and clean air, plus the midnight summer sun, and spot rare whales.

• Greenland
Greenland is the world's largest island with a population of only 56,000, living in 17 towns and 60 settlements, none of which is connected by road. Ice covers 85% of Greenland and represents 10% of the world's total fresh-water reserves. Its ice-free area is as large as France. Go dog-sledding, bathe in hot springs, walk amongst Arctic flowers, spot polar bears and see the skies glow with the Northern Lights during winter.

Says Sue McAlinden, Product Manager, WEXAS & Best Served Scandinavia:
“I'm particularly looking forward to Vestnorden this year. It's important for me to keep up to date with the latest products and suppliers for the region. The meetings (both formal and informal) allow for an abundance of discussions for future co-operation, promotional ideas and marketing opportunities. I have found the organisation of the event to be exemplary with the pre-post tours invaluable for gaining further insight into new destinations and activities.”

Top global futurist, Anne Lise Kjær:
For the first time this year there will be a half-day conference and a guest speaker. Global futurist, Anne Lise Kjær, an expert in consumer mindsets and trend intelligence, hopes to provide delegates with insightful forecasts about the traveller of the future.

Information for UK delegates:
Flight from Copenhagen to the Faroe Islands and return, airport transfers and three nights’ bed and breakfast accommodation (12-15 September) will be provided for all delegates, plus two lunches, an evening get-together and a gala dinner. Conference and workshops will take place on 13 & 14 September.
