The retired banker, aged 63, had no idea when she began suffering aches and pains in her neck, back and jaw that it was anything serious. So when she eventually went to her GP she was shocked to find she had Giant Cell Arteritis, also known as Temporal Arteritis.
The condition can be successfully treated with steroids. But had she left it much longer, and allowed it to spread, she could have been blinded.
