Aug. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Wyoming, Michigan, August 16, 2011 – If your child is injured during a Friday night football or basketball game, no need to wait until Monday to see your doctor.   Starting Aug. 27, the sports medicine physicians and physical therapists at Metro Health will see you Saturday morning at Metro’s first Sports Medicine Center in the new Spartan Stores YMCA.

The new 6,350-square-foot facility will be located on the second floor of the Spartan Stores YMCA next to the fitness room.  The facility will be staffed with fellowship-trained sports medicine doctors and orthopedic surgeons – the same ones who volunteer their talents to provide sidelines care for the Grand Rapids Griffins, Fifth Third River Bank Run, Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon, Meijer State Games and athletes at colleges and high schools throughout West Michigan.

The YMCA will open its doors on Aug. 15.  The Metro Health Sports Medicine Center will also open then, although Saturday hours will not begin until Aug. 27.

“Whether you are an elite athlete or a weekend warrior, our focus is on keeping you well and in the game,” said Mike Faas, president and CEO of Metro Health.  “We are incredibly pleased to partner with the YMCA to provide what we feel is the most integrated sports medicine offering in the greater Grand Rapids area. The Spartan Stores YMCA is an excellent fit for the Metro Health Village, which is focused on health and wellness.”

Metro Health Sports Medicine will offer:

•   Evaluation and treatment of sports injuries
•   Digital X-rays
•   Diagnostic ultrasound
•   Concussion testing
•   Physical therapy
•   Traction
•   Gait analysis

The Metro Health Sports Medicine Center will feature nine exam rooms.  Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.  Massage hours are 5-7:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Non-members of the YMCA will still be able to access the Sports Medicine Center.

“We are incredibly pleased to have a true partner in Metro Health with its news Sports Medicine Center,” said Bev Thiel, Executive Director of the Spartan Stores YMCA. “Our focus on health and wellness and Metro’s focus on keeping athletes in the game is truly a winning combination.  Our staffs will work together to provide the best patience experience possible.
