Mold in Dormitories Endangering Students Gets a Beating From Molderizer

Mold is one of the top health hazards among college students living dormitories. It can cause students’ illnesses that can even be life threatening thus enough attention must be given to it.

PRLog - Aug. 16, 2011 - A mold is not given much thought as one of the leading hazards among students living in dormitories. There is a big misconception that viruses and bacteria are the leading causes of illnesses, however the case is not entirely true for dormitories with mold.

Knowing that mold can put students in great danger, Molderizer.com sought out to help. It recommended to dormitory officials the use of an organic-based mold remover that can effectively kill the pores without emitting toxic gases.

Basically mold thrives anywhere and anything. In dormitories, it could be unchanged pillow sheets, bed sheets, the bathroom, doorknobs and many other things that students could come in direct contact with.

So what are the potential illnesses a mold can do to a person’s health? Common mold symptoms are diarrhea, asthma, headache, nosebleed and death if there is a severe case of mold poisoning.

“The misconception that viruses and bacteria are culprit of college students’ illnesses especially those living in dormitories, is not at all accurate for mold is also a killer. Mold is treated unsuspectingly but the potential damage to health can be fatal. We should be quick as to know the mold symptoms when we see one.

"Not everybody reacts the same with mold. However, diarrhea, headache, nosebleed and asthma are common symptoms of mold poisoning. Moreover, death can also be a consequence when there is a high level of fungi present in the rooms. And because sheets and pillows are not regularly changed in college dormitories and cleaning is not much of a big deal, it becomes an ideal place for mold invasion.”

“Students needn't worry about a little mildew on the shower curtain, but mold infestation—in walls, for example—can be extremely hazardous to your health, says Susan Brinchman, the founder and executive director of the Center for School Mold Help. Mold can be particularly problematic for those with asthma, allergies, or other respiratory conditions.

"The solution: Mold thrives in warm, wet conditions, so small-scale cases typically can be prevented by keeping clothes, bathrooms, and kitchen areas dry. However, if you notice signs of a dorm-wide infestation—such as a diffuse mildewy smell—Brinchman says to steer clear.”

Mold must not be excluded as one of the things that can cause sickness among students in dormitories. If dormitory staff can include it in their list of potential health hazards, then necessary actions can be undertaken early on.

However, cleaning the mold out of dormitories can be an expensive task to complete. It can be damaging to the planet as well if the solutions used to treat it are chemical-based.

But, since people are more conscious now of using eco friendly products, there are already safe mold removers in the market. They are made of organic ingredients therefore they are non-toxic.
