John Helzberg, M.D., joins Saint Luke’s liver management center

Aug. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Effective Aug. 1, 2011, noted gastroenterologist and hepatologist John Helzberg, M.D., has joined Saint Luke’s Hepatology, Liver, and Transplant Specialists, part of the new Liver Disease Management Center.

The center offers comprehensive care for adult liver disease management, from minimally invasive treatments to transplantation. With a subspecialty in hepatology, Dr. Helzberg contributes more than 20 years of clinical experience in the treatment of liver, gallbladder, bile duct, and gastrointestinal disorders. Dr. Helzberg joins a collaborative team of surgeons, infectious disease specialists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, diabetologists, and other treatment team members, all dedicated to providing a full spectrum of patient-centered, evidence-based care.

Formerly with Mid-America Gastro-Intestinal Consultants, Dr. Helzberg plans to continue his gastroenterology and endoscopic practice.

Dr. Helzberg joined Saint Luke’s Hospital’s medical staff in 1987 and led the Gastroenterology Department as section chief for nearly 20 years. His extensive training began with undergraduate work at Stanford University in 1976, followed by earning his medical degree from the University of Rochester in 1980. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center and a fellowship in digestive diseases from Yale University School of Medicine.

Dr. Helzberg is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. He also has authored numerous abstracts and publications and amassed an extensive list of awards throughout his career. The list of honors includes being named among the Top Physicians in America from 1996-2011 by the Consumers’ Research Council of America; being listed as one of the Best Doctors in America in both gastroenterology and hepatology from 2002-2011; Best Gastroenterologist in Kansas City in 2007, 2008, and 2009 by Kansas City Magazine; and the American Liver Foundation Clinical Award in 1990.
