Why Chose a Level 3 PT Diploma Over a University Degree?

When Gaby Leveridge (22) was 18 and finishing her A-levels she wasn’t sure that she wanted to go to University.

Aug. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Gaby knew she wanted to work in the sport and leisure industry but wasn’t convinced that a degree would give her the best route into employment.

Gaby takes up the story:

"I am a very practical person so wanted to ensure that any further education I did would allow me to make the most of my practical skills rather than being too theoretical. After completing two seasons working in the Alps I realised that a career in the leisure industry was definitely for me and enrolled onto a course with Premier Training International to study towards a Diploma in Personal Training."

Although there were times Gaby felt envious of her friend’s university lives, she didn’t miss the debt they were accumulating and continues:

"The Premier course offered a similar ‘student’ atmosphere as I was studying with a group of like-minded individuals and I was lucky enough to forge some great friendships. The learning was fun; and very practical. We would spend half a day in the classroom and the other half in the gym practicing what we’d learnt."

Today, many university graduates face months of job hunting and stiff competition for only a handful of suitable jobs, leading to youth unemployment rising. Gaby talks about her experience:

"When I graduated and finished the course, Premier helped set up lots of interviews with different fitness operators – and I was inundated with offers because of the reputation Premier has within the industry. The Premier team also offered lots of advice and support about how to prepare for my job interviews and ensure I stood out from the crowd. I could quickly see that potential employers valued the training and education Premier provides. I am pleased to say that I had accepted a job as a fitness professional within two weeks and quickly promoted to gym manager."

After spending a year with Nuffield Health, Gaby was offered a job as a gym manager for a women’s only gym – New River Express Fitness in London. Gaby concludes:

"I have never been happier. I know I made the right decision when it comes to my training and opting to go down the non-traditional route of not going to university. I know I am at the start of what is going to be a truly rewarding and exciting career."
