Photographer Jules Allen and “Double Up” scheduled for WHCR 90.3 Interview

Jules Allen schedules Radio Interview with former professional boxer Ricky Young, WHCR 90.3, about his new book, “Double Up: Photographs by Jules Allen” the personal, photographic story of pugilistic life inside New York City’s Gleason’s Gym.

Aug. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- New York, NY -  Photographer Jules Allen, is scheduled to speak with host and former professional boxer Ricky Young, WHCR 90.3, “What’s in Your Hand,” about his new book, “Double Up: Photographs by Jules Allen” the personal, photographic story of pugilistic life inside New York City’s Gleason’s Gym on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 6-8:00am and Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 6-8:00am.

Allen trained in Gleason’s, the oldest, active boxing gym in the country, in the 1980s.  The story and images found in “Double Up” are a result of Allen’s work with the renowned boxing, master-trainer, Bobby McQuillen, who also worked with Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali and musician, Miles Davis.

Allen, the recipient of numerous grants and awards, has been widely exhibited in the U.S. and abroad.  His photographs are included in numerous museums, inclusive of the Museum of Modern Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian, the National Gallery, the Schomburg Center for Culture & Research and others. Mr. Allen currently lives and works in New York as a photographer and a professor in the Department of Art and Design at Queensborough Community College, of which the QCC Art Gallery serves as co-publisher of the book.

Ricky Young is the radio host of "What's in Your Hand" on WHCR 90.3 fm – City Colleges of New York, http://www.whcr.org. “What's in Your Hand” is a motivational radio program focused on success and achievement with the goal of inspiring the listener's to their talents, abilities, gifts, and skills.  Ricky is a former Professional Boxer with 22 bouts and was Boxing Coach at Columbia University for 11 years.  

Allen has agreed to two WHCR 90.3 Interviews:  Sunday, September 18, 2011, 6:00am - 8:00am and a follow up two-hour conversation on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 6:00am to 8:00am.  Allen’s book is available to the public via selected independent bookstores, nationwide and Amazon.com beginning, September 2011.
