Follow on Google News | Photographer Jules Allen and “Double Up” scheduled for WHCR 90.3 InterviewJules Allen schedules Radio Interview with former professional boxer Ricky Young, WHCR 90.3, about his new book, “Double Up: Photographs by Jules Allen” the personal, photographic story of pugilistic life inside New York City’s Gleason’s Gym.
By: VCJ Entertainment Allen trained in Gleason’s, the oldest, active boxing gym in the country, in the 1980s. The story and images found in “Double Up” are a result of Allen’s work with the renowned boxing, master-trainer, Bobby McQuillen, who also worked with Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali and musician, Miles Davis. Allen, the recipient of numerous grants and awards, has been widely exhibited in the U.S. and abroad. His photographs are included in numerous museums, inclusive of the Museum of Modern Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian, the National Gallery, the Schomburg Center for Culture & Research and others. Mr. Allen currently lives and works in New York as a photographer and a professor in the Department of Art and Design at Queensborough Community College, of which the QCC Art Gallery serves as co-publisher of the book.
