By: Hulafrog Take a Hike! Family Naturalist Program, Allaire Forest Head over to Allaire Nature Center, Wall and you and your kiddos can take a hike as part of the Family Naturalist Program. After the walk in the Allaire Forest, you’ll work on a nature craft together. The whole family will learn about the wildlife and plants that live in the park. WHEN: Every Saturday from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. (Rain or shine) GEAR: Wear closed-toe shoes. Bring water, a hat, sunscreen & bug spray. FEE: $10 per family of 2 adults/3 children, $3 per additional child. Pay upon arrival at at Allaire Nature Center. Go On a Fossil Hunt: Poricy Park, Middletown Poricy Park is having another one of its beloved fossil hunts this Sunday. Wander in the cool shade covering Poricy Brook while looking for fossils with an experienced guide. Tools (trowels & sifters) are provided . WHEN: Sunday, August 21, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM GEAR: Must wear closed-toe shoes. Old sneaks or rain boots are best (as you will get wet!). Bring a bucket or bag to collect your treasures. Kids will help haul a 30-foot seine net into the dark waters of Sandy Hook Bay at Port Monmouth. Lanterns and flashlights will illuminate their discoveries. WHEN: Saturday, August 20 from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM. GEAR: Bring a flashlight and dress for the weather. Closed-toe shoes that can get wet. AGES RESTRICTIONS: CALL to register: 732-842-4000. MCPS Code: IMW13A Manasquan Reservoir Boat Tours How about taking the kids on a 36-foot pontoon boat to tour the Manasquan Reservoir? Every weekend (and Wednesdays, too) the Manasquan Reservoir Visitors Center offers 45 minute boat tours. The tour provides history of the reservoir, its use as a water source, and discusses the wildlife habitat. Kids can look for osprey, great blue herons, bald eagles and other wildlife.
