Radio Mesh Prevails
A special focus on radio as a well known and proven communication technology has shown to be successful. Especially the Radio Mesh Networked System demonstrates extreme stability and high performance on meter readings. This is due to the wireless system’s self-healing network and to its independency of cables thus avoiding electric noise disturbances.
Compared to cabled solutions, less network components are required for the Radio Mesh Network, there are fewer costs for GSM communication, and there is no filtering of noise. The Radio Mesh Network is a simple set-up where all meters act as repeaters. A large number of meters will in fact make the network even stronger as the signal will have multiple ways to the concentrator.
Worldwide, radio mesh networks form the backbone of smart metering solutions and pave the way for the full smart grid roll-out.
Latest Wireless Innovations from Kamstrup include:
- An electronic water meter using the open standard Wireless M-Bus. The water meter can be read with handheld devices as well as integrated in a Radio Mesh Network via a Multi-Utility Controller (MUC) in the electricity meter.
- A Smart Home-enabled electricity meter with an external slot for plug-in modules allowing direct consumer interaction by means of Z-Wave, Wireless M-Bus or other standards.
- A ZigBee-enabled heat/cooling meter for enhanced interoperability.
