Alan Cramer Explains How Being a Rape Baby Influences His Writing

Aug. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Born as a result of his mother being raped, Alan Cramer's view of the world has always been cynical. This mistrust of life itself, led to drug use by the age of twelve. This in turn led to Cramer living a double life.

A hard working civil servant by day; a hard core smoked out crack head by night. Cramer saw himself looking forward to a pension, while many of his closest friends were either dead or in and out of jail. After twenty years of drug use, ten on crack, he had hit bottom.

Cramer started writing after he got clean. He was drawn to write stories based on the things and people he knew from the streets. Cramer writes from this experience, but his stories are not the run of the mill urban fiction. It wasn't until recently that Cramer discovered his stories were considered noir literature. His stories about middle class blacks are told from a 'Dark' perspective. These stories are not fairy tales, just like real life, there are often no happy endings.

"I have yet to meet anybody who's life ended happily," Cramer says.
