Aug. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Glenn Olson decided to take action and began educating children about the threats of abduction, abuse and bullying at his martial arts academy in Johnson City, TN.  The evolution of the kid-friendly and parent-approved program came to be called safetyNETkids.  Since 2003, the safetyNETkids program has been taught to thousands of children.  Olson says, “We reach kids through our Safety and Bully Prevention videos and Safety Days where community leaders follow the safetyNETkids curriculum”.

The touchy subjects of abuse and abduction are difficult for parents and mentors to talk about with children. When asked how safetyNETkids is able to address these issues, Olson said, “What separates safetyNETkids from other programs are the teaching methods and the memorable activities. It is important to provide children with exact responses to these threats (abduction, abuse and bullying) and you must do it without ever making them afraid or uncomfortable”.

Recently, safetyNETkids received an update to its curriculum package materials including the addition of a Confidence Program, Internet Safety Program and Instructor’s Guide Video.  The curriculum is geared toward teachers, guidance councilors, law enforcement, martial arts instructors, day cares, ministries and child advocacy centers. “It was a natural progression for us to add a specific Confidence Program.  Confidence is taught within all the lessons but really deserved its own section.  A confident child is much more likely to avoid being a victim”, Olson said.

Olson continued, “The Internet Safety Program teaches children how to avoid being cyber bullied and to never accept online invitations.  It also encourages kids to “think, then click” before sending a text, email or posting a comment”.

The Instructor’s Guide Video features Glenn Olson and gives the safetyNETkids instructor insight into Olson’s experience and shows his kid-friendly teaching method.  Olson said, “Setting the mood and tone of the class is difficult to describe, the video allows the instructor to see exactly how the kids respond”.

The updated safetyNETkids website features and Amber Alert ticker, statistics and endorsements from kids, parents and others that have used the program.  Olson said, “I am really pleased with the way the new site looks and people can finally get our videos right off the website instead of having to call”.  http://www.safetynetkids.com.
