DENVER (Aug. 12, 2011) – A “Business After Hours” networking event will follow the Buyers & Sellers Procurement Assistance Fair Aug. 30, providing an opportunity for attendees to extend their efforts to find appropriate vendors and business partners.
The all-day fair at the Tivoli Center on the Auraria Campus in Denver is sponsored by the Colorado Minority Business Office; and the Business After Hours is sponsored by the Minority & Women’s Chamber Coalition. Both are open to the public and there is no charge for admission. The networking event will serve as a prelude to the annual Summit of the Chambers, scheduled to be held in October.
“We feel the energy building around this combination of events,” said Minority Business Office Director LeRoy Romero; “and I believe Aug. 30 at the Tivoli Center could become the single most productive day that a minority- or woman-owned business could spend in Denver this year.”
The fair will run 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and the networking event will follow immediately. Dozens of “buyers” at booths throughout the hall will meet with representatives of minority- and woman-owned businesses, explaining to those representatives how to become included on preferred-vendor lists.
Some of the larger “buying” organizations that have reserved booth space at the fair include the Colorado Small Business Development Center Network, the Colorado Department of Transportation, Denver International Airport, the Regional Transportation District, and Denver Public Schools.
Those buyers are invited to remain on site for the Business After Hours, which will run 4:30-6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided, executives will be on hand representing five chambers of commerce: Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Denver, Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce, Asian Chamber of Commerce, Rocky Mountain Indian Chamber of Commerce and Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce.
“The diversity at a networking event like this will be extremely beneficial for participants,” said John Wright, president of the Asian Chamber. “We’re excited to be able to pull this together in such an informal and pleasant setting.”
The fair will include free seminars throughout the day, all designed to help “sellers” understand how to qualify to do business and make a success of their efforts. Topics include “Getting the Right Certification,” “Financing, Bonding and Insurance,” “Compliance and Payroll,” and “Writing Proposals.”
Parking at Auraria Campus is $10, but there is an RTD light-rail stop nearby.
As additional information about the fair becomes available, the Minority Business Office will provide updates via Twitter. Sign up to receive your Twitter feed at @MinorityBizOff. Also, the Minority Business Office encourages buyers and sellers to record their observations about the fair via hashtag #BuySellFair.
The Colorado Minority Business Office is a division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. To reserve booth space, call Romero at 303-892-3764, or email him at L.Romero@state.co.us. Anyone interested in attending the Business After Hours should contact John Wright at the Asian Chamber of Commerce, 303-595-9737, or RSVP via email at asiancc@rmi.net.
