The annual event staged by Avenidas is just one of many services they perform for the community. “At Avenidas, we provide a wide range of support options, information, and services that enable people to stay active and maintain their independence. We also help adult children care for their aging parents, with programs such as this conference,” said Michael Griggs, Social Work Services Manager.

The conference kicks off with a keynote address by Patrick Arbore, EdD, from the Institute on Aging on burnout and compassion fatigue.

Next, attendees have their choice of sessions from “Modern Medication Management,” by Dr. Yusra Hussain, “Making it Legal,” by elder law attorney Jerome Galli or “Internet Resources for Family Caregivers,” by Andy Cohen, founder and CEO of Caring.com.

The second session begins with the choice between attending Minda Cutcher and Judy Johnson’s talk on “Everyday Archeology at Home,” Janice Wallace’s presentation on Successful High Stakes Conversations,” or Jonathan Frecceri discussing “The Nature and Grief and Healing.”

Attendees are treated to lunch and then the chance to meet sponsors and enter to win a raffle for door prizes. The day’s final session features Janeen R. Pratt on “Caregivers Need Love, Too,” or Alexandra Morris’s discussion of “Understanding Mental Decline,” or the team of Michelle Rogers and Joan O’Keefe as they discuss “Alternatives for Home Care.”

Early registration runs through August 12 and costs $35 for Avenidas members and $40 for non-members. After August 12, the registration fee will be $45. Registration includes lunch, a keynote speaker, choice of three workshops, access to sponsors and a chance to win prizes.
