New Sponsors Attract Seven New Companies To Young Enterprise

A North Staffordshire business charity has secured the backing of several local companies in their quest to reduce the cost of entry to schools.

Autonet Insurance, DHL, Keele Science Park, Alton Towers and Rydale Roofing have all pledged to support Young Enterprise North Staffordshire, with the intention of boosting participation in the charity’s Company Programme, and ultimately encourage the region’s young people to set up their own businesses.

Their donations will reduce the entry price for schools and colleges, which currently stands at £750 per team.

As a result, four new schools, including Trentham High School, Sandon Business and Enterprise College, and Clough Hall Technology School, have already agreed to take part in the 2011-12 competition.

The charity is now hoping other local businesses will come forward to help other schools get involved. Various sponsorship packages, offering a number of marketing opportunities, are available.

Young Enterprise’s North Staffordshire Area Board Chairman Richard Swancott said: “We have had 11 schools and colleges enter teams this year, which is a 50% increase on the 2010-11 competition.

“The support of different types and sizes of businesses – from a small local business which employs a handful of people, to a huge multi-national organisation – has been a massive boost.

“We still need other businesses to come forward and inspire the entrepreneurs of tomorrow, because we ultimately want the Company Programme competition to be free to enter.”

The charity is also looking for volunteers to be mentors to the young businesspeople as they run their businesses, and others to take a seat on the North Staffordshire Area Board to help engage with more local businesses and determine the strategic direction of Young Enterprise in the area.
