PRLog - Aug. 11, 2011 - MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- The Wartburg Adult Care Community of Mt Vernon, NY, has executed the “LeadingAge Quality First Covenant” which identifies and establishes standards for 10 elements of quality in senior care.  The Covenant, which was signed by David Gentner, President and CEO of The Wartburg, and The Rev. Amandus Derr, Chairman of The Wartburg’s Board of Directors, accepts full responsibility for meeting and advancing the standards of quality identified by LeadingAge, a national association of 5,600 not-for-profit organizations dedicated to expanding the world of possibilities for aging.

“LeadingAge advances policies, promote practices and conduct research that supports, enables and empowers people to live fully as they age.  The Wartburg, which is a LeadingAge member organization, has always offered residents and the community high quality and compassionate care, as evidenced by our New York State surveys and significant numbers of word-of-mouth referrals,” said Mr. Gentner.  “The Ten Quality Elements are items we already subscribe to and uphold.”

Quality elements that LeadingAge identifies include commitment to quality, governance and accountability, community involvement, continuous quality improvement, human resource development, consumer friendly information, consumer participation, research findings and education, public trust and consumer confidence and LeadingAge care and services.  “The Quality First initiative involve not just executing the Covenant, but completing the extensive checklist to identify findings that required action and using the checklist to self-monitor and seek to improve services and care,” said Mr. Gentner. “The LeadingAge plan was introduced to the entire Board of Directors in June and will help us identify pathways to achieve our 2011 goals as well as to move forward with planning for 2012.”
