Following the tremendous success of last season’s production of Jane Austen’s PRIDE AND PREJUDICE: THE MUSICAL, Chamber Opera Chicago is proud to present the world premiere of an original musical adaptation of Jane Austen’s final novel, PERSUASION.

Written at the height of her literary career, PERSUASION is one of the most compelling love stories ever written.  Performed with authentic music from the era with full orchestra and Celtic instruments, this production showcases musical selections from Jane Austen’s own personal manuscripts including classical, Scottish, and Irish tunes of her time.  Traditional Irish dancers from the Trinity School of Dance and incredible sets from British American designers Jacqueline and Richard Penrod will add to the charm of the production.  Don’t miss this passionate tale of romance for all times, which will appeal to both Austen fans and novices alike!

In PERSUASION, Anne Elliot has rejected a proposal of marriage from the one man she truly loved, Captain Frederick Wentworth.  She was persuaded by her godmother that Captain Wentworth was unworthy, but after a separation of nearly a decade, he returns from sea with both rank and fortune.  Anne is nearly an old maid and her once rich family is on the verge of bankruptcy.  Can Anne win him back?  Can he forgive her for breaking off their engagement rather than following her heart?  And can their lost love be rekindled?  A musical drama filled with traditional music from Jane Austen’s time, Irish and period dance, plus striking sets and projected scenery of England, this promises to be an authentic rendering of Jane Austen’s novel that will transport you back in time!
