Aug. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Bahrain is a small island state near the western shores of the Persian Gulf. It consists of a low desert plain and limited to fresh water. This small island is surrounded by salt water making large investment in a hydroponics facility. Due to the rise in global food prices continuously, Bahrain Government trains the locals in hydroponic crop production and encourages them to grow for themselves by choosing hydroponics systems.

Even Bahrain Government plans to adopt hydroponics systems in the near future, so that Bahrainis grow their hydroponic gardens and have access to their own food which will encourage a healthy economy.

Most of the people don't know that Middle East is the birthplace of Hydroponics. Thousands of years ago the Middle East people started growing plants without soil in Babylon, in the Hanging Garden. Currently the Bahrain government adopted aquaponics system for growing plants.

Aquaponics is essentially a type of hydroponics consisting of two main things. One is fish culture and the other is hydroponics. Instead of adding hydroponics nutrients into the reservoir to feed the plants, they rely on fish to provide the needed nutrients. Here fish waste serves as a nutrient for plants while plants generate oxygen for the fish to survive. With this symbiotic process you can grow healthy fishes as well as plants.

As the global population continues to grow, the value of crop will also rise. Expect to see many more governments and companies investing in hydroponics systems in near future as the costs of water, fertilizers and labor continue to rise.

Hydroponics systems can be encouraged in disaster and famine areas, as this system can be established quickly and even relocate if need arises.  It is better that government begins to use hydroponics to provide food in disaster relief areas, as opposed to short term aid in the form of packaged meals and water. United sustainable agriculture is one such company poised to work with government and relief organizations to create long term food production systems in disaster areas and unstable regions.

The U.S. military is already helping the Afghanis by making their farmland more productive, and to convert their crops from the opium poppy, the cash crop that fuels the Taliban, to food. As said in the old Chinese proverb, “If you give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, and he eats for life.”
