Cal's Auto Pros Warns about Flushing Coolant System in Cars and Trucks

Flush coolant system regularly is good advice found in the Owner’s Manual of all motor vehicles,” says Calvin Brown, noting how important it was to periodically flush the coolant system as it relates to the performance of your car.

Aug. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Proper maintenance and regular flushing of your motor vehicle’s coolant system is very important to prolong the life of your car’s engine, says head of California’s top professional mechanic shop, Cal’s Auto Pros, specializing in flushing coolant systems in cars, trucks and other vehicle, Calvin A. Brown Jr.

In support of “coolant flushing” your car’s system, Brown explained that with the propensity to breakdown overtime, spent coolant will significantly put a lot of stress on the radiator that will cause the engine to overheat.

“As gunk and other mineral deposits accumulate inside the cooling system, the engine gets overheated and this reduces its overall performance, plus an overheated engine self-destructs fast,” notes Brown.

To avoid an overheated engine, which will leave you stranded on the side of the road, the Cal’s Auto Pros coolant specialist recommends flushing the coolant system once every 2-3 years, but concedes once per year is best.

“A well-maintained coolant system will cause lower repair costs for you, the car owner, and provide you higher resale value should you decide to sell your car later on,” says Brown, who believes that the frequency of how often you flush your coolant system depends on the type of your car and the weather condition in your area.

“If you live in a locality with moderate climate, you can flush coolant system once a year. However, if you are in a location with severe winters and/or scorching hot summers, then you need to do it twice a year,” he added.

When flushing your vehicle’s coolant system, Brown also warns that you should NOT use one of the "Prestone flush kits" that has a "T" fitting for a garden hose because this can cause leaks and result in damages.

“It can also damage the thin delicate metals inside the cooling system during the coolant flush procedure from excessive pressure and flow. Besides, water from your garden hose will rot the inside of your engine, radiator, and cooling system components causing coolant system failure and a hefty repair bill,” he warns.

Cal invites vehicle owners to come in today for a professional cooling system flush, done the right way for your safety and to protect your car’s engine from expensive repairs in the future.
