Follow on Google News | International Font Company Announces Expansion of ITC Weber Hand, Created by Artist LisaBeth WeberNoted Bucks County, PA regional artist/writer/musician and creative business strategist LisaBeth Weber adds to her plate of accomplishments with an expanded release of her font family via ITC (International Typeface Corporation) by Monotype Imaging.
By: LisaBeth Weber This is a big deal in the font world, since most handwriting fonts are single-weight, standalone products. Allan Haley, Director of Words & Letters at Monotype explains why ITC Weber Hand was chosen for further development among all the other single-weight, handwriting fonts. “Monotype Imaging introduced an application called FlipFont that enables switching out fonts on mobile devices, along with a suite of fonts to support the application. Several of these fonts were of the handwriting variety and became very popular, compared to more structured fonts. Seeing this, we realized that a handwriting font with bold and condensed family members might not only prove useful in supporting mobile device operating systems, but also in a variety of other graphic communication environments. ITC Weber Hand was chosen because it has been a consistently popular design since its release, has been used on everything from menus to billboards, and because LisaBeth Weber, the typeface’s designer, was more than agreeable to having more designs added to her original family.” Adding the new designs was a collaborative project between Weber and the type development team at Monotype Imaging. Now, as a family of four designs, and equally at home in headlines and short blocks of text copy, Weber Hand can be used in brochures, advertisements, logotypes, periodicals, package design and – perhaps – even mobile devices. This is clearly a font family that will not collect dust on your hard drive. Weber comments, “Thanks to Monotype Imaging’s support, ITC Weber Hand has grown into a suite of warm, friendly designs that are well-suited to a wide range of applications.” Lettering has always been a passion for LisaBeth. In the first grade, her favorite subject was penmanship and when she eventually got her first checkbook, Weber was disappointed to learn that her signature was supposed to be the same on every check. She happily says, “I brake for cool signs’ should be my bumper sticker.” Although this typeface design mimics handwriting, Weber Hand has an underlying decorous, gently structured quality. This, along with additional weights, makes for a remarkably useful typeface family in a relatively small package that will surely continue to be a popular handwriting type with broad appeal. The ITC Weber Hand Family can be purchased directly from LisaBeth at www.lisabethweber.com, and is being featured prominently (among the thousands of fonts available) for the entire month of August on www.itcfonts.com, as well as www.fonts.com, www.linotype.com, and more.
