The United States Chamber of Commerce (the “U.S. Chamber”) and RecruitMilitary, LLC, are pleased to announce that they have joined together to produce 13 career fair hiring events for our nation’s veterans and their spouses. These events will be known as “Hiring Our Heroes/RecruitMilitary Veteran Opportunity Expos” and will be held from September through December 2011. RecruitMilitary will produce all of the events. The first one will take place on September 22 at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. The remaining 12 Hiring Our Heroes/RecruitMilitary Veteran Opportunity Expos will take place on October 6 in Pittsburgh, October 13 in Phoenix, October 20 in Atlanta and Kansas City, October 27 in Jacksonville, November 3 in Philadelphia and Seattle/Tacoma, November 10 in Dallas, November 17 in both Charlotte and Norfolk, December 1 in San Diego, and December 8 in Houston. For a complete list of the locations and times of these events, please visit www.recruitmilitary.com.
These events will benefit veterans and military spouses who are looking for jobs and businesses that want to hire great employees. To increase the number of employers participating in these events and maximize job opportunities for veterans and military spouses, RecruitMilitary is offering companies that are members of the U.S. Chamber and local chambers a 10% discount on the cost of their exhibition booths. Additionally, RecruitMilitary will offer further price reductions for small businesses (businesses that have less than 50 employees), and even lower rates for veteran-owned small businesses.
“We are pleased to partner with the U.S. Chamber in this initiative,”
said Drew Myers, President and Founder of RecruitMilitary and a former Captain in the United States Marine Corps, “and we are especially glad that we will be able to make these events a great bargain for small businesses. The success of those enterprises is vital to our economic recovery. Small businesses employ more than 50% of all private-sector employees, and they pay 44% of the total U.S. private payroll.”
“The Chamber started the Hiring our Heroes initiative because many of our members—which include thousands of small, medium, and large businesses—want to hire veterans and military spouses,” said Kevin Schmiegel, Vice President of Veterans Employment Programs at the U.S. Chamber and a retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel. “Even with high unemployment, we have a huge skills gap in America that is hindering our recovery. Veterans can help fill that gap because they have unique leadership experience and advanced technical expertise.”
The U.S. Chamber (http://www.uschamber.com
) is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations. The Chamber’s mission is "to advance human progress through an economic, political, and social system based on individual freedom, incentive, initiative, opportunity, and responsibility.”
More than 96% of U.S. Chamber members are small businesses with 100 employees or less. To help connect its members with veteran job seekers, the U.S. Chamber has scheduled 100 “Hiring Our Heroes” events for communities across the nation from March 2011 to March 2012. The Chamber’s strategic partners in this effort include the Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS; http://www.dol.gov/vets
