Aug. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Indio, CA - In order to support community organizations and services, the Indio City Council has allocated $25,000 for community grants for recognized organizations or governmental agencies providing a service that directly benefits residents of Indio.  The city recognizes the importance of continuing to invest in the community and encourages local groups and nonprofit organizations to apply for city funding.  The grants will support the organizations for the City’s fiscal year, which runs through June 30, 2012.

The application deadline is September 1, 2011.  Applications can be found on the home page of the City’s website at www.indio.org.  This will be the only time that the City will consider any funding requests for this fiscal year. “The City will evaluate all applications and award funding based on a set of criteria,” said Jim Curtis, Human Services Manager for the City.

Evaluation criteria for funding requests include:

1)   Nonprofit or Governmental Agency – Requests for funds can only be authorized for recognized nonprofit organizations or governmental agencies providing a service that benefit residents of Indio.  Funding amounts cannot exceed $5,000 and priority will be given to organizations who do not receive financial support from the city through another manner.

2)   Service(s) to the Indio Community – Funding will be granted to organizations/agencies that directly benefit Indio residents in the form of enhancement of quality of life, delivery of an identifiable service, or the organization provides services in Indio.

3)   Economic Development, Marketing and Support of the Indio Business Community - Funding will be provided to organizations or governmental agencies that will strengthen the business community of Indio, supports the city’s overall economic development program, or enhances Indio’s marketing capacity and recognition in the region.

4)   Funding requests must meet the first criteria and at least one of items defined in the second and third criterion.
