Follow on Google News | Reduce Downtime with Advanced Multistage Surge ProtectorDee distributes and provides value-added services to OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), CMs (contract manufacturers), and supports Purchasing Agents, Buyers, Engineers, and Supply Managers to find solutions and exceed their goals.
By: ASEA Brown Boveri The enclosed surge protective devices (SPDs) are designed for a long service life, protecting valuable equipment from transient surges due to lightning strikes, and surges from upstream equipment and utility load switching. They are suitable for protection of facilities such as critical power (hospitals, data centers, etc.), renewable energy, water/wastewater, and other manufacturing and commerical operations. As a multistage protector, the SPD has fast acting metal oxide varistors (MOV) and noise attenuation filter (EMI/RFI) to limit overvoltage. These devices are easy to install and maintain due to the MOV modules that can be replaced without rewiring, and the ability to quantify protection level, and track the number of surges. One customer in the aggregates industry was able to save over $100,000 in one year in equipment costs and lost revenue due to downtime by installing an SPD. When uptime is a critical element of a facility or operation, enclosed SPD is the ideal solution. Designed for indoor installation, the new surge protection device uses MOV technology to achieve a high level of protection performance and allows easy module replacement. Each SPD comes standard with status lights, alarm, auxiliary contacts, EMI filtering and a fused disconnect. It is available in three service voltage versions including 240/120VAC split phase, 480VAC delta, and 480Y/277VAC, as well as two protection levels at 160 and 320kA per phase. An additional benefit is the optional surge counter/diagnostic LCD display. Surges 2kA and above are recorded with date and time. The SPD can be used in addition to DIN rail SPDs at branch panels and equipment, creating a multi-level approach to protection. Extensive damage and expensive repairs can result from transient surges if surge protection is not present. The installation of the enclosed SPD is recommended wherever uptime is a critical element of a facility or operation.
