Authored by lifetime area resident and historian Lidia Hook-Gray, the book aims to take residents on a nostalgic walk down memory lane while gaining a greater appreciation for the area's unique history.
"History isn’t just dates and old guys in white wigs," Hook-Gray said. "It’s the day-to-day stories, like how did people file their homestead claims, when did passenger train service stop, and why the downtown buildings have below street entries—the fun facts—that shape a town and county."
Most of the images in this book are from the Seward County Historical Society and the author’s personal collection. Additional photographs are courtesy of generous residents who lent their invaluable resources to this project.
Liberal and Seward County will be available August 22, 2011 at area bookstores, independent retailers, online retailers, and through Arcadia Publishing at (888) 313-2665 or www.arcadiapublishing.com.
