Bruning Campaign Not Authorized to Use Cabela's Name

Aug. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Stenberg campaign spokesman Dan Parsons said today that Attorney General and Senate candidate, Jon Bruning, should be ashamed of himself for engaging in a campaign deception very similar to conduct Bruning prosecuted a Democratic candidate for Governor for last year.

According to an official Cabela's news release, http://tinypic.com/r/28jl5d3/7 Bruning hosted a campaign event at Hillside Golf Course in Sidney, Nebraska.  The Cabela's news release states in part as follows:

“In communications sent to his supporters and the media, Bruning's campaign described the event as ‘Dinner with Cabelas (sic) reception at Hillside Country Club.’  Cabela’s Inc. was not associated with the event, nor was the use of the Cabela's name authorized by the company. The event was not sponsored or paid for by Cabela's… Cabela's has contacted the Bruning campaign to express concerns about the unauthorized use of the name….”  

“Just last year, Bruning successfully prosecuted a candidate for Governor for claiming that the candidate had the financial support of organizations and individuals who, in fact, did not support him," Parsons said.

“Now Bruning engages in a similar deception in order to unfairly gain support for his U.S. Senate campaign," Parsons said.

“Cabela's is one of Nebraska's most successful and respected homegrown businesses and it is by far the largest employer in Sidney, Nebraska.  Bruning’s deception was clearly intended to deceive the citizens of Sidney and the surrounding area into supporting Bruning's campaign by claiming he had the support of Cabela's, when clearly he did not."  Parsons said.

“This incident reminds us of Bruning's recent campaign for Attorney General in which he ran a TV ad designed to deceive Nebraskans into believing he was from a small Nebraska town when, in fact, he is not," Parsons said.

"Bruning's Attorney General website says he protects Nebraskans from consumer fraud.  But who will protect Nebraska voters from Bruning's fraud?"  Parsons asked.

“The Stenberg campaign salutes Cabela's for standing up to the Attorney General and setting the record straight.  If there are others who Bruning is falsely claiming support him, we would encourage them to set the record straight in a letter to the editor or similar communication," Parsons said.
