Follow on Google News | British Gas are Driving People Towards Solar Energy. The UK already suffers with higher than average energy bills, but Britain’s largest energy supplier, British Gas, is planning to apply more pressure on home owners by raising the price of its bills by twenty per cent.
By: Alex Quail With an 18pc rise to its Standard Gas, and a 16pc rise in its electricity, British Gas is due to raise the average homeowner’s annual bill by just under £200. 9 million residential accounts will be affected by these new prices, meaning a collective loss of £1.7 billion. The new price structure is due to come in to effect on August 18th, 2011. Those already struggling to afford their energy bills from British Gas are finding themselves in a rut, with many searching for better deals elsewhere. Due to the increased uptake in energy usage over the cold British winters, home owners on smaller budgets are due for a challenging year. Despite consumers investigating competitor pricing, the ‘Big Six’ energy providers are all due to announce energy pricing increases, meaning the current pricing structure won’t be in place for long. This again leaves home owners in the difficult position of risking changing their energy providers only for them to potentially further increase their bills. Advice from experts is for consumers to search for the best deals based on their usage, making sure that they are saving energy wherever possible, and making long term investments in renewable energy (removing the complete reliance on the large energy companies and the national grid). Because of the ever increasing price of energy supply in the UK, many consumers are looking for alternative energy production methods. With government incentives rewarding people for embracing renewable energy sources, solar panels are becoming increasingly popular.
