Mr. Water Coloring Contest is Off and Swimming!

Aug. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- “Let’s Swim with Mr. Water,” by renowned sculptor, artist and swim instructor, Connie Foss, was released this June and is proving to be popular with parents interested in helping to teach their children to swim. “Let’s Swim with Mr. Water” has also acted as the introduction to the Mr. Water Coloring Contest taking place right now.

The Mr. Water Coloring Contest was established for kids aged 5 to 12 who want to be a creative part of the upcoming book sequel, “More Fun with Mr. Water.”  Kids can choose up to three of the planned characters, color them with their own designs and submit them for consideration by author Connie Foss.  Winners will have their character colorizations depicted in the book sequel, with full credits.  

The characters that will appear in “More Fun with Mr. Water” are a boy, a girl, a rocket, an alligator, a frog, a boat, a lizard, a dolphin and a butterfly.  All entries will be posted in a photo gallery on the ConniesKidsBooks website.  The first of those entries received can already be viewed there.  

“Let’s Swim with Mr. Water” starts out with a simple yet basic lesson on how to float, one that is invaluable to youngsters learning to swim.  It takes them through the process with cute illustrations and explanations so that the experience is a fun one, learned in the company of their parent(s).  These illustrations are left blank or white so that kids can color them if they so desire.

“I am thrilled with the publication of my first book but also excited about having this contest that engages young people from a creative standpoint as well.” stated author and swimming instructor Connie Foss.  “In Arizona, as well as many of our warmer states, swimming and access to water goes beyond the typical summer vacation months.  It’s important that parents take advantage of every opportunity to teach their children the fundamentals of swimming.” Foss added.

The Let’s Swim with Mr. Water book makes water and learning to swim a fun endeavor for children, introducing them not only to a future recreation and sport, but even more importantly, the means to survive should they unexpectedly end up in the water alone.   It is hoped that excitement over the Mr. Water Coloring Contest will help generate more desire by parents and youngsters alike to learn to swim with Mr. Water, enjoy the experience , and be safe.

Learning to enjoy water without any trauma, any fear, is so easy, when one understands the methodology. Knowledge is power, but the method used to apply it is extremely important, particularly in introducing your child to water. ..The goal may be serious, but the journey needs to be fun.

“Let’s Swim with Mr. Water” is a fun, non-intimidating introduction to swimming for both parent and child. “Mr. Water” guides both parent and child through the very basics of floating, blowing bubbles, and beginning swim strokes. Throughout the book, illustrations are intentionally printed without color to allow the child to color in his or her “self” — to allow the child to actively participate in the reading and learning process, and to create a personal experience for the child.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Connie Raun Foss grew up in Storm Lake, Iowa, with the lake a constant source of enjoyment. She learned to swim in the old-fashioned way, but later took all of the Red Cross classes — becoming certified as Life Guard, Water Safety Instructor and, the highest level, Water Safety Instructor Trainer. Having taught swimming since college days, she has helped thousands to learn to safely enjoy the water and hundreds to be instructors. Connie has taught in Storm Lake, Memphis, Missouri, and is currently teaching in Prescott, Arizona.
Connie Foss is also a renowned sculptor whose work can be found in homes and galleries worldwide.
