Follow on Google News | Pilchuck Glass School Anniversary Featured in Exhibition at Traver Gallery TacomaPilchuck ’s 40th anniversary is the subject of an exhibition at Traver Gallery Tacoma. The exhibition honors the crucial role Pilchuck has played in the development of many of the world’s most prominent glass artists.
Presenting a combination of new and historical works by world-renowned artists working in glass,Traver has selected nineteen artists to feature in its Tacoma waterfront gallery next door to the Museum of Glass. Each has a deep connection to PIlchuck, having participated as students, instructors, and/or resident artists over the last four decades. Featured artists include: Sonja Blomdahl, Dale Chihuly, Joey Kirkpatrick, Walter Lieberman, Flora Mace, Dante Marioni, Paul Marioni, Richard Marquis, Benjamin Moore, William Morris, Richard Royal, Ginny Ruffner, Preston Singletary, Therman Statom, Susan Stinsmuehlen- The Traver Gallery has a long history of exhibiting work created by Pilchuck instructors, students, and staff members. For more than 20 years, Traver presented an exhibition each fall featuring the outstanding artists who taught or worked at Pilchuck Glass School the previous summer. This group show honors that relationship as well as the influence of Pilchuck on the studio glass movement in the Northwest. In addition to the exhibition in Tacoma, Traver Gallery will present a second group show featuring its artists who have served as instructors at Pilchuck throughout the last four decades in a temporary exhibition space in Seattle located at 1200 Western #200. An artists’ reception for this “pop-up” show will be held on Friday, August 12, from 6 – 9 pm. This exhibition is otherwise open by appointment only. About Pilchuck : Founded in 1971 by Dale Chihuly, Anne Gould Hauberg and John H. Hauberg (1916-2002), Pilchuck Glass School is an international center for glass art education. Located on a tree farm in Stanwood, Washington, Pilchuck sponsors two- and three-week classes each summer in a broad spectrum of glass techniques, as well as residencies for emerging and established artists working in all media. Now celebrating its fortieth anniversary, Pilchuck has become the largest and most comprehensive international educational center for artists working in glass.
