Aug. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- For over 50 years, Pleasant Green Community Pool has served the families of Goodlettsville, but on Aug 7th, the pool’s gate closes for the final time.

After 50 + years of operation, the Goodlettsville City Commissioners voted in June not to allocate funding for the continued operation of Pleasant Green, citing low usage and a drain on the budget. Ironically, figures released by the Goodlettsville Parks and Recreation Department tell a different story. “This year the Pool will have over 12,000 people in attendance over the season” said Denver Schimming, “and over the history of the Pool’s operation it has broken even or turned a profit. This year is tracking to generate revenue in the black.”

Outraged citizens have turned out for the last two City Commissioner’s meeting to argue against closing the Pool, but the pleas have fallen on deaf ears of the City Commissioners and at present no plan is in place to re-open after Aug 7th.

The Friends of Pleasant Green organization urge everyone to join them at Pleasant Green on Aug 7th for one “last hurrah” as Goodlettsville resident John Pyka puts it. “Think of it as an impromptu pool party,” he added. “Everyone is welcome (because it is a public pool), and with 50+ years of history, we hope many in town will make plans to join us on Aug 7th between 10 AM and 5 PM, when the Pool closes forever.”

The next City Commissioners meeting is Thursday Aug 11th, and the Friends of Pleasant Green are hoping to fill the chamber once again to save this historic landmark. Those interested in learniing more about this fight and the Friends of Pleasant Green can contact Denver Schimming at 615-573-6408.
