Aug. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Organised in partnership with Washington State’s Department of Commerce, the 14th edition of this unique event focusing exclusively at the carbon fiber industry is coming back to the USA on 4-6 October 2011. This 2 day conference will be hosted in Seattle – a hive of the composites activity and the place where the mass scale use of CFRP by the aerospace industry originated.

“This is the most exciting conference programme we have ever revealed”, said Robert Stead, Head of Events at IntertechPira. “The number of end users on the agenda is unprecedented. There is a revolution taking place across the automotive sector in terms of lightweighting and we have a good mix of presentations from prestige to mass production brands, such as Ford, GM, Lotus and Lamborghini. An exclusive paper from Gamesa will give a first hand insight into developments in wind energy, and we pleased to be the first ones to bring the topic of carbon fiber recycling to the US with two contributions from Boeing. This year’s GOCarbonFiber is definitely a must-attend event for everyone involved with the carbon fiber industry.”

Due to many recent developments in the automotive sector, the programme will provide an in-depth examination of this end use market in presentations from General Motors, Ford, SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers, and Lotus Engineering. In addition, both Lamborghini SpA and Lamborghini Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory will be speaking for the first time ever about revolutionary technologies used in the Sesto Elemento concept car and Aventador production model.

Furthermore, for the first time on the US soil, the recycling of carbon fiber composites will be examined by Boeing Research and Technology, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Harper International, K.U. Leuven Materials Research Centre, Materials Innovation Technologies and University of Nottingham. GOCarbonFiber2011 will also present a talk from Dr Khalid Lafdi of University of Dayton on the future trends in demand for composites.

Day 2 of the conference will focus on the use of carbon fiber in other end use applications, such as wind turbines, offshore oil & gas, sporting goods as well as a novel high-end kitchen, with speakers from Gamesa, Vyatek Sports, Vello Nordic, and Poggenpohl Möbelwerke. MAKE Consulting will dig deeper into global trends in the wind energy sector and opportunities this market brings for the carbon fiber industry. The application of carbon fiber in construction and infrastructure will also be explored by American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA).

Advances in manufacturing process session will look into developments in production of complex CFRP structures and monocoques, prepreg curing, innovative polymer matrix systems for advanced composites and efficient emissions control systems for carbon fibre production. The presentations will be given by representatives from BASF, Dürr Systems, Quickstep Composites, Mubea Carbo Tech, and Deakin University.

The comprehensive conference will be complemented with a pre-conference visit to the Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory (ACSL), located at the University of Washington Campus in Seattle on Tuesday 4 October 2011, as well as extensive networking events, including a drinks reception.
