Aug. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- A new study conducted by a mobile phone comparison website has revealed how inquisitive we are when it comes to our partner’s mobile phones, as the study found that as many as one in three Britons admit to regularly ‘spying’ on their partner’s mobile
.
The study, conducted by Www.GoodMobilePhones.co.uk, polled 1,769 people in relationships aged 18 over, asking them questions surrounding their mobile phone privacy.

Those taking part in the study were initially asked, “Have you ever spied on your partner’s private devices/ accounts?” to which the large majority, 88%, answered ‘Yes’.

The respondents who admitted to spying on their partner were then asked to choose, from a multiple list of answers, which devices/ accounts they regularly ‘spied’ on.
According to the results, the top 5 answers were as follows:

1.       Mobile Phone- 34%
2.       Email Account- 24%
3.       Facebook Account- 22%
4.       Private Pictures- 11%
5.       Bank Account- 9%

The respondents were then asked to explain why they felt that they needed to ‘spy’ on their partner’s confidential accounts and devices. The majority, 38%, admitted that they ‘didn’t trust’ their other half, whilst 28% explained they did so through ‘jealousy’.

Furthermore, just under a fifth, 19%, explained that they were just ‘being curious’; whilst 15% said that they only did so because their partner ‘did the same to them’.

Of the respondents who admitted to spying on their partner’s mobile phone, over half, 57%, admitted reading their other half’s text messages; whilst 28% said that they regularly listened to voicemails.

Mark Owen, Managing Director of GoodMobilePhones.co.uk, had the following to say about the study:

“It can be tempting to give in to curiosity by having a sneaky look at your partner’s mobile phone or emails, even more when your partner’s mobile doesn’t have a password or pin protection. However, we would never recommend doing so; as, at the end of the day, it is an offence to access people’s private accounts without their permission.”

He continued:

“If you want to make sure that your own mobile privacy settings are set up properly, have a look at the security options that your phone network can provide, by checking online or calling directly their customer service. It is easy, doesn’t take too long and doesn’t cost anything.”
