LocalPAGES Bring the Gnar! Giveaway
- Aug. 2, 2011 - LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Summertime means many things to different people. In extreme sporting circles, this time of year is synonymous with surfing and skating. There’s nothing like hitting the pavement on a hot day and watching the pros compete at the X Games. Learning new tricks takes time, practice, and a lot of patience. Persistence eventually pays off, but not without leaving a bloody trail of destroyed gear in its wake. Cracked decks and flatspots show no mercy in ruining even the gnarliest of sessions.
Since replacement parts don’t fit into anyone’s budget at the moment, LocalPAGES.com and 4 sponsors decided to throw skaters a bone(less) through a special online contest. Bring the Gnar! gives shredders everywhere a shot at an awesome prize package just for “liking” the LocalPAGES Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/localpagescommunity
. One grand prize winner walks away with a Dog Town complete skateboard from ZJ Boarding House, a 4ft. grind box from Liberty Skate, and an Arbor Mission longboard complete from Purple Skunk Board Shop! Of course, no skateboarding contest would be complete without combos; entrants may complete lots of similar, simple web based tasks for a total of 30 chances at the coveted award. The number of bonus points increases according to the level of difficulty. For instance, liking the sponsors’ Facebook pages earns another 3 points. Write a review of a favorite local skate shop on LocalPAGES, grab another 4 points. Submit an original skating photo or video for 10 more---be sure to stick LocalPAGES in there somewhere. Put links to all the swag in the comments section of the Bring the Gnar Official Rules blog post (http://blog.localpages.com/2011/07/bring-the-gnar-officia...
), and may the gods of gnar bless thee. Beginners might not be ready for primetime, so they’ll need to prepare with an extreme sports lesson package from SoCal Xtreme. Valued at $100, these are all access VIP passes into the exciting world of snowboarding, skydiving, and motocross. These will be handed out on a weekly basis, and the recipients pick which activities they want to participate in.
While this contest expresses support for extreme athletes, it also highlights the importance of local businesses. Neighborhood board shops, such as Purple Skunk and ZJ Boarding House, serve a purpose in their communities. Purple Skunk owners Lizzie and Rodney sponsor Bay area riders, and give kids a safe place to chill after school. For its part, the ZJ Boarding House crew regularly spends its time keeping the Santa Monica beaches clean. Online only retailer Liberty Skate pitches in by donating a portion of its revenue to American Forests; 1% of every dollar spent at Liberty goes to planting new trees. These independent companies are the backbone behind their local skate scenes, and need love just as much as the big guys.
