Follow on Google News | Balancing the Budget on the Back of DvorakUsing figures provided by the American Hospital Association Gregory GOrDon shows a way to match the 2.4 trillion debt reduction package being presented in Congress by simply switching the nation's computer keyboards from Qwerty to Dvorak
By: The Trust in God Musculoskeletal disorders, including carpal tunnel syndrome, are among the most prevalent medical conditions in the U.S., affecting 7% of the population. They account for 14% of physician visits and 19% of hospital stays. The total number of hospitalizations per year is 37,479,000 in registered hospitals and 35,527,377 for community hospitals with a total cost of 726,671,229,000 for registered hospitals and 656,156,258,000. All things being equal let’s say that using the Dvorak Keyboard can eliminate ten percent of the hospital stays and costs per year. That adds up to 138,000,000,000 in savings each year. That is found money that can be applied to balancing the budget. Remember that the figure I used only takes into account the reduction in hospital stays. As you can see a reduction in doctor’s visits goes right along with this. Add to that a 100 billion dollar reduction in Workmen’s Compensation Costs and we get a figure of over 250 billion dollars per year. That means that without touching a single program that the United States Congress, Senate and the President have scratched out of the budget we can raise the same or more of the 2.4 trillion dollar debt reduction plan that they are counting on within ten years. Put both plans together and we are talking about an economy on steroids. Forget if you will for a moment the astronomical amounts of money that can be saved by a switch to Dvorak and turn your attention to the human side of the debate. Tens of millions of people will see a reduction in pain and suffering making for a happier workforce, better spousal relationships and drastically improved productivity. And nobody has to wait for a second to make themselves healthier. The Dvorak Keyboard is built-in to all computers already. And although your IT department at work may have issues with switching over the operating systems at your job, as this is still America I can’t see how or why they should stop you from bringing your own keyboard like the Kenesis hardwired to type in Dvorak. The Dvorak keyboard was designed in 1935 by a man named August Dvorak. He put all of the vowels of the English language in the left hand of the home row and the most used consonants in the right hand of the home row. This makes for a keyboard that is so superior to the Qwerty that it also alleviates Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Please visit my blog where I show some hard wired keyboards that type in Dvorak and other ergonomic keyboards that can be switched by using the operating system and labels that show both Qwerty and Dvorak. Remember at the end of this debate we can all emerge stronger and more unified than ever with less pain and serious productivity gains.
