Aug. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- In January 2007, Terry Grahl, an award-winning decorator from outside Detroit was asked to use her talents to turn a dreary shelter for women and children into a warm, nurturing environment. After getting to know the women and children at the shelter, she realized the opportunity for transformation beyond just paint and furniture. And so with nothing more than a strong belief she could truly make a difference, she closed her decorating business to found Enchanted Makeovers, a not-for-profit, 100% volunteer organization.

Over the past 5 years, Terry has brought her unique approach to many shelters across the nation. The most comprehensive makeovers took place in her home state of Michigan.  Terry starts with the premise that everyone is worthy. She and her group of volunteers physically improve shelters by turning them into whimsical cottage-like retreats. The shelter becomes a place where the residents thrive, now feeling hopeful for the future.

Based on the tremendous impact Enchanted Makeovers’ projects/programs have had, this work needs to be brought to the next level. In order to extend the reach of this movement, Enchanted Makeovers has created a replicable model that can be adopted to empower all communities across Michigan and beyond. But presently, all activities are coordinated out of Terry's home she shares with her family of six.  The leadership team and staff are running the mission from their homes across the country.  This structure has  limited the number of shelters that could be positively impacted by Enchanted Makeovers.  The organization’s infra-structure now needs to be built on a strong foundation in order to create an operation that can lead communities to adopt this successful model. A headquarters needs to be established from where all operations will be conducted. It will serve many purposes. It will provide office space for the current team to conduct activities that support the mission. It will serve as the clearing house for all gifts-in-kind. At this time, storage space is so limited that gifts-in-kind donations have had to be turned away.  Most importantly, it will be the training headquarters where shelter directors and community leaders will be introduced to this new model. They will be given the tools and on-going support to return to their communities with the knowledge to make a difference and change lives.

Enchanted Makeovers is looking for an angel investor who will help launch the mission to the next level!  They are in desperate need of warehouse storage space and office space and are asking for a one-year tax deductible donation of both.  If you know of an angel investor who can help in the Downriver Area, MI (Allen Part, Southgate, Lincoln Park, Trenton, Taylor, Riverview) please contact Enchanted Makeovers today!  This donation will change the lives of many in ways never thought possible.
