Follow on Google News | FinnFest Film Festival Features Finnish Movie Premieres, Advance Screenings and MoreIn conjunction with “Finland Month” and the 28th annual FinnFest being held in San Diego this August, FinnFest 2011 will host a four-day long Finnish Film Festival from Thursday, August 11 to Sunday, August 14.
By: Chemistry PR “Finnish filmmaking is a fast-growing industry and the creative talent that comes out of the country is unmatched,” said Kathrin Mautino, Honorary Consul of Finland. “We are excited for this opportunity to expose the American audience to the latest and greatest in Finnish film.” A sampling of FinnFest 2011 Film Festival highlights include: Tuesday, August 2: “Steam of Life” Screening and Q&A The Finnish documentary, “Steam of Life,” will be broadcast on PBS at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2. Various locations throughout San Diego will have special showings of the film. As part of KPBS’s partnership with the San Diego Public Library, there will be a special screening at the San Diego Public Library in Pacific Beach on August 2 at 6 p.m. The Honorary Consul of Finland, Kathrin Mautino, will moderate a Q&A session directly after the screening. Thursday, August 11: “The Princess” (Prinsessa) Screening Screening of the popular Finnish drama, based on real-life events. The movie will be shown with English subtitles at AMC Fashion Valley on Thursday, August 11 at 7 p.m. Friday, August 12: “Lapland Odyssey” Screening Screening of a Finnish comedy with English subtitles at AMC Fashion Valley on Friday, August 12 at AMC Fashion Valley at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 13: “The Kiss of Evil” Screening Screening of a Finnish crime film with English subtitles at AMC Fashion Valley on Saturday, August 13 at 7 p.m. Sunday, August 14: “Comet in Moominland” Advance Screening A special advance screening of the classic children’s movie based on the popular Moomin characters will take place on Sunday, August 14 at 9 a.m. The film was originally released in 1992, but the translated version will be officially launched for the American audience in October 2011 during the “Los Angeles International Children’s Film Festival.” All FinnFest 2011 visitors will have the unique opportunity to preview the film during FinnFest.
