SACRAMENTO, Calif. MAAP, Inc. announced today that it successfully closed its Chapter 11 case with the United States Bankruptcy Court - Eastern District of California on June 29, 2011. As a result, it is once again effectively positioned to deliver vital social service programs to underserved communities in Sacramento County.
“Having successfully completed the reorganization process and published a new strategic plan, MAAP’s board of directors and executive leadership have re-committed to the core social service programs in alcohol/chemical dependency and mental health that have been our hallmark for over 30 years,” said Lorraine Rinker, MAAP’s President and CEO. “The organization has emerged as a much stronger and more focused community resource. Going forward, MAAP clients will be more effectively served and our stakeholders reassured of our viability.”
MAAP’s newly-appointed Director of Finance and Administration, Cathy O’Connor, stated, “The budgetary and programmatic realignment has protected the vital counseling and case management services for which MAAP has always been respected. Individuals and families in our target populations will continue to receive the support they need surrounding their substance abuse and mental health challenges.”
MAAP’s continuum of services now includes an incremental core expansion of its outpatient substance abuse services to Veterans experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and at-risk youth living in some of the most impoverished areas of the Sacramento Metro Region. With collaborative support from other social services agencies, health care institutions, and community leaders; MAAP is poised to contribute integrated solutions throughout our region in preparation for the Affordable Care Act 2014.
“Four years ago, MAAP embarked on a laudable effort to open and operate a new clinic,” said Marco Rodriquez, Board Chair. “Unfortunately, the clinic proved to be unsustainable in the increasingly distressed economy and the entire organization was at risk. We closed the clinic. Exiting the Chapter 11 process, MAAP is on course to greater fiscal health. I was confident that we would complete the bankruptcy to the satisfaction of the court and MAAP’s creditors. I am very proud of the collaborative efforts of the board and staff to get us to this milestone.”
