Follow on Google News | Atlantic Toyota Customers: Toyota Predicts 16,000 Plug-in Prii Sold in 2012There is much anticipation surrounding the release of the all-new Plug-in Prius. Atlantic Toyota and Huntington Toyota shoppers hear Toyota expects to sell 16,000 units.
By: Porta Press "We think it's going to be a strong seller and we'll deliver to whatever level the market wants," said John Hanson, a Toyota spokesman. "We're certainly on line to sell 16,000 to 17,000 in 2012." The Plug-in Prius is estimated to travel the first 50 miles on its lithium-ion battery pack only. Then it will switch over and operate like a standard Prius and get up to 50 mpg city and highway. The Plug-in may be charged via a standard 110-volt outlet for the convenience of new owners in about three hours, or if an owner wants to install a 240-volt charger, the Prius would charge in about 90 minutes. Atlantic Toyota and Huntington Toyota shoppers should know that the Plug-in Prius will be sold for $3,000 to $5,000 more than the standard Prius models. Some states, like California, will be offering a rebate and also will allow the driver to be in a carpool lane without a passenger. The federal tax credit will be at least $2,500 for those that qualify. So far Toyota Motor Corp has not begun a promotional campaign spreading the word of the Plug-in Prius via advertisements. There have been press releases and articles issued via the Toyota Media website as well as debuts of vehicles at auto shows such as the North American International Auto Show.
