Needy Families Receive Help Equipping Children For School

July 27, 2011 - PRLog -- The basics for school – paper, notebooks, writing supplies – can be too expensive for a needy family who has to purchase these items for multiple students each year. Often in the past, teachers had a budget to help stock some of the basics in their classrooms but these funds have also been cut or eliminated. You can insure that these students have all the tools and supplies they need to be successful in school.

The City Kids Festival, Saturday, August 20, 2011, will be a day of celebration with activity booths, games, prizes, food, balloons and the Gospel tent. There will be books sorted by grade level that students can look through to find something to call their own. Free to everyone; only the backpacks require pre-registration.

Needy families are welcome to register for the backpack give-away between now and August 13th. Parents can sign-up in the Mission Thrift Store between 10 am and 5 pm, Monday through Saturday, when they bring photo ID, proof of address (eg; PG&E bill), and proof of the child’s grade level, Kindergarten through 8th grade. No registration necessary for any of the day’s other events. The Mission Thrift Store is located at 1821 Piner Rd, Santa Rosa, CA.

The City Kids Festival will take place in Juilliard Park, 227 Santa Rosa Ave, across from the Luther Burbank Home and Gardens. The entire park will be filled with fun!

Donations of school supplies will be accepted at the Ministry Support offices, 1821 Piner Rd, Santa Rosa, CA 95403 The website has lists of items for the backpack, by grade level, at http://srmission.org/ck2011.html. Backpacks are bought in bulk by the Redwood Gospel Mission but you can donate toward their purchase.
