The Beach Ball celebrates 20 years

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley celebrates a milestone at the Pelican Hill Resort.

July 26, 2011 - PRLog -- More than 220 guests attended the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley's annual gala at the Pelican Hill Resort on June 10, 2011 raising over $100,000 for the Club.

The Beach Ball began with a cocktail reception featuring a steel drummer and a spectacular art show by Club members.  Boys & Girls Clubs youth greeted guests and explained their "beach-inspired" art pieces on display for the silent auction.  The youth were regional winners in the Boys & Girls Clubs art show and are being considered for the National Art Exhibit, where only 37 will be selected across the United States.

As the guests entered the ballroom for dinner they enjoyed music by Mark Wood Entertainment and the Parrot Head Band and bid on a silent auction that featured travel packages, jewelry and Club member original paintings and hand-sewn beach bags.  Executive Director, James Littlejohn, formally welcomed guests and thanked sponsors.

Youth of the Year Club member, Michael Velasco, expressed why the Club was important to him and how it has significantly impacted his life.  Velasco stated, "I was very shy and found it difficult to make friends.  If you saw the boy who entered San Juan Hills High School four years ago and the Michael Velasco standing here today, you would not know they are the same person.  I found the Boys & Girls Clubs.  I joined the Keystone Leadership Club and now I will graduate on June 22 as senior class vice president and a devoted role model for other kids in the Club."

Emcee, Lynn Chichi, highlighted the happenings over the past 20 years, thanked the major sponsors and urged the guests to support the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley.  The live auction featured a luxury stay at the Pelican Hill Resort including a round of golf with Coach Tyrone Willingham, a lunch at the Pacific Club with basketball star, Jamaal Wilkes, a trip to Costa Rica and pledges to sustain the Art program at the Club.

After the live auction and gourmet dinner, guests danced the night away to classic rock by Mark Wood Entertainment.
