PACIFIC GROVE, CA (July 25, 2011) – Fandango Restaurant, located in the heart of Pacific Grove, stands for  a heritage of good taste, craftsmanship of award winning cuisine and 24years of tradition.  Thoughtful restaurateur’s Pierre and Marietta Bain announced today that September is National Mushroom Month.  Pierre and Marietta created a special dish in honor of National Mushroom Month called Mushroom Provencal.  The special dish will be available September 1 – 30 for lunch only and is $13.75 including Mushroom Provencal with soup and or salad to start and dessert to finish!

Did you know that France was the leader in cultivating mushrooms? Louis XIV, according to some, was the first mushroom grower and grew mushrooms in caves near Paris.  In the late 19th century, the United States began its own mushroom production.  Minnesota is home to Louis F. Lambert, the first American to cultivate mushrooms here in the United States . By 1914, mushrooms were big business in the United States . Easy to grow and cheap to buy. By 1924, 85% of all mushrooms were grown in Pennsylvania.  Today, Americans celebrate National Mushroom Month every September.
