'Henchard: The Missing Years' released today. A tale of the moody rascal :The Mayor of Casterbridge

What did Micheal Henchard do inbetween selling his wife and child whilst drunk and meeting them again, twenty years later ? He lied, cheated and fornicated his way across America, whilst robbing as many innocent people as he could.

July 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Thomas Hardy wrote of Micheal Henchard, a scoundrel who rose through life to become the dark and moody Mayor of Casterbridge. As a young man he sold his wife and child at a country fair. Subsequently they returned twenty years later to haunt him and witness his ruin and downfall. But what happened in those years between the auctioning of his yound family and their return ?
Micheal Henchard's journal was recently found in the attic of a small cottage near Dorchester and it is his account of those missing years of his life.
In between lying, cheating, stealing and fornicating he travelled to America by way of a whaling ship and became embroiled in the infamous 'Nat Turner Slave Rebellion' of 1831. Against his will and better judgement he was then recruited into the 'British Band', a group of native american warriors led by the esoteric Black Hawk.
Henchard makes no attempt to gloss over his skullduggery and appalling lack of any morals and unashamedly recounts his journey from being a penniless hay-trusser to a respected mayor and magistrate. Could anything possibly go wrong for him ? Of course it can.
