July 26, 2011 - PRLog -- MMAL will be showing a total of 18 cars at the Melbourne Motor Show, which runs from July 1st to 10th  at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.  Among cars on display at the Mitsubishi Motors stand will be the Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV, the all-electric i-MiEV, the high-performance Lancer Evo MR, city-sized ASX and legendary Pajero.

Australian premiere: Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV
Powered by the Mitsubishi Plug-in Hybrid System, the new-generation crossover, Concept PX-MiEV, showcases the possibilities offered by eco-friendly EVs returning fuel economy in excess of 50 km/litre.

Delivering both outstanding environmental and road performance, this concept satisfies the need for occupant safety combined with powerful performance. The Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV is designed primarily to drive in all-electric mode while using a petrol engine to generate electricity to assist the electric motor when required.

Differential motors and Mitsubishi’s S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control), utilises E-AYC (Electric-powered Active Yaw Control) which transfers torque to the rear left and right wheels. Other features include Mitsubishi’s “cocochi” or “cozy” interior,* which provides occupants with a comfortable cabin environment, as well as many of the latest safety technologies.

Mitsubishi’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Genichiro Nishina, will unveil the Concept PX-MiEV vehicle to the Australian media at the show.  With its simple and clean shape and exciting technology, this PX-MiEV is sure to generate plenty of interest with both the press and public.

i-MiEV
Mitsubishi’s all-electric city vehicle, the i-MiEV, will be on show in Melbourne, giving the Australian public the opportunity to experience the future of EVs.

The model year 2012 i-MiEV, revealed in June this year, features numerous specification upgrades and an affordable purchase price, giving environmentally aware Australian customers the opportunity to own a zero drive-time emission vehicle.

MMAL’s CEO and president, Genichiro Nishina, said the upgraded safety and comfort specifications along with a lower price, are sure to please prospective buyers with sales to being next month.

The MY12 i-MiEV includes additional features over the previous model, boosting the vehicle’s occupant safety and comfort levels.

Safety has been enhanced with the addition of side and curtain airbags, taking the total number of airbags in the vehicle to six.  The addition of Electronic Stability Control to the previous model’s Active Stability and Traction Control and braking system helps the i-MiEV maintain traction on slippery or rugged surfaces and ensures stability and prevents loss of control when cornering.

The European-styled upgrades to the MY12 i-MiEV’s exterior include a larger rear bumper which adds a stylish finish and complements the vehicle’s smooth lines. Auto Lighting control and Multimode Keyless entry complete the upgrades to the 2012 model and enhance the overall i-MiEV experience.

Mr Nishina said the sale of i-MiEV to individuals will be the catalyst that begins to change the shape of the Australian motoring landscape.

“Considering that about 95 per cent of commuters in urban Australia travel less than 100 kilometres per day, the i-MiEV is an excellent real-world solution to help reduce the population’s environmental impact,” Mr Nishina said.

The i-MiEV (Model Year 2010) will be on display at the Mitsubishi Motors stand and available for test drives throughout the show.

Outlander Activ SUV
The Outlander Activ SUV will also be on show in Melbourne, combining superior quality, safety, space, versatility and comfort with numerous interior and exterior upgrades over the entry-level Outlander LS. This limited edition Outlander is packed with extra features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a chrome accented radiator grille, black roof rails with sporty cross bars, fog lamps, a chrome exhaust tip and a special edition ‘ACTiV’ badge.

The Outlander Activ has enhanced safety with the addition of reversing sensors and the two-wheel variant receives automatic air-conditioning and side and curtain airbags, features the four-wheel drive already carries as standard.

Limited Edition Pajero RX
The legendary Pajero makes an appearance at the Melbourne Motor Show with the limited edition RX commanding attention. Bearing a wide range of safety features and luxury accessories including satellite navigation and reversing camera, the special edition model combines the Pajero’s off-road prowess and five-star comfort in one outstanding vehicle.

Burke and Wills Environmental Expedition Pajeros
Equally certain to generate interest will be the Burke and Wills Environmental Expedition Pajeros which recently completed the journey from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Affectionately named after Burke’s horse “Billy” and camel “Raja”, the Pajeros have played their part in re-creating history and are sure to draw crowds.

Undertaken by two ‘modern’ but no less adventurous explorers - multi award-winning actor and environmentalist, Jack Thompson, and trek creator, historian and author, Jonathan King – this journey commemorated the 150th anniversary of the original journey.

Mitsubishi’s entire Australian line-up
In addition to the new concept, performance car and production models, examples of Mitsubishi’s broad Australian range – including the rugged Triton utility, the sporty and safety-packed Lancer and the versatile Challenger,  – will also feature on the stand.

Love that car ASX
As a final touch, the ultimate ‘love that car’ fan tribute ASX will be on display to celebrate 30 years of Mitsubishi Australia. Covered in hundreds of fans’ photos, with their beloved Mitsubishis, the ASX highlights the pride and passion that comes from owning a Mitsubishi.

Genichiro Nishina said the stand represented Mitsubishi’s wide range of products available in the Australian market and also provided a glimpse into the future.

“Our line-up features everything from the top-of-the-range to production models Australians know and trust, like the Pajero and Triton,” he said.

“We’re also looking to the future of EVs, showcased by the Concept PX-MiEV and the highly anticipated 2012 i-MiEV, highlighting our commitment to technology and environmental standards.”

“In the coming years, Mitsubishi has exciting product arrivals to look forward to, including the attractive and affordable Global Small recently revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, and these will further strengthen our Australian range,” Mr Nishina said.

The Melbourne International Motor Show opens on July 1st at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Southbank.
