'Be An Angel' Brings Some Christmas Cheer to Dallas in September

    Since its humble beginnings just before Christmas in 1994, Be An Angel has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years for Legacy Counseling Center, which provides mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and special care housing facilities for HIV-positive and AIDS-challenged persons living in North Texas, by auctioning and selling hundreds of holiday gift and travel items.

    This year's Be An Angel once again features the jazzy, silky baritone Vince Martinez,  who has toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe and has been the benefit's headliner for more than a decade.  Martinez will perform many beloved standards, some of which are featured on his latest album, Cocktail Hour, including The Lady is a Tramp, Fly Me to the Moon, and Summer Wind. http://www.vincentmartinez.com). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMRy0T1VSGM Media celebrity and Clear Channel Radio public affairs director Anna De Haro also returns this year to host the event.




    Located in Dallas' art entertainment district Deep Ellum near downtown, Monica's Aca y Alla (http://www.monicas.com) features Mexico City and Tex-Mex specialties like Chili-Pumpkin Ravioli, Black Bean Pepper Steak and Mexican Lasagna.  Transgendered chef and restauranture Monica Greene opened this popular restaurant over 20 years ago, first under her birth name of Eduardo.  Greene's latest restaurant, BEE (best enchiladas ever) Enchiladaria, opened in Oak Cliff earlier this year and soon will expand to a second location in downtown Arlington.

Legacy Counseling Center (http://www.legacycounseling.org) provides individual and group therapy to HIV-positive people and their families. Legacy also operates Founders Cottage, a seven-bedroom house that provides 24-hour care for critically ill AIDS patients in a home-like setting.
