Golfers Grateful ‘fore’ Persimmon Homes Donation

July 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Darren Annetts, stepdad to Troy Parker, founded the golf day in 2006.  Tragically in 2002 at the age of 12, Troy died from a head injury when he collided on his bicycle with a car and was not wearing a helmet.  It seemed a very minor knock at the time and Troy was taken to Southampton Hospital however his condition deteriorated and was put on life support for eight days before he sadly passed away.

In homage to Troy’s memory and to raise money for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Hospital where Troy spent his final days and the Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust - a trust that has been striving to make it law for children to wear helmets since before Troy died – Darren set up the Golf Day which has become a key calendar event for many of Troy’s family and friends.

Commenting on the donation from Persimmon Homes, Darren said: “Staff at Persimmon Homes have been extremely supportive – the company contributed £1,000 towards the annual Troy Parker Football Tournament in June so we were thrilled when they pledged £1,500 towards the Golf Day. Their funding went a really long way and has been truly appreciated by everyone involved with the organisation of the day.”

“It’s really important for me, and all of Troy’s friends that play every year, that the golf days and football tournament continue – not only to keep the message about cyclists’ road safety in the forefront of people’s minds but also to keep Troy’s memory alive amongst those who knew and loved him.”
