While the news was not exactly a surprise to Lin, the SAT was not the first thing on his mind when he received his score report.
“In the days leading up to when my SAT score was made available, I was busy doing school work and I wasn’t thinking much about my SAT score,” Lin said.

“I don't think I would have been able to get a perfect score without Testmasters,”
Lin said. “I scored a 1990 on the very first practice exam we took. Regarding the SAT specifically, Testmasters showed me how important time was on the essay section, made me realize that I was over-thinking the critical reading section, and gave me many opportunities to practice.”
Secrets to Success
When asked for advice he would offer others looking to slay the test, Lin suggested focus and patience as two points of advice for fellow test-takers in their efforts to achieve perfection.
“The best part about Testmasters was the exam club, which allowed me to get lots of practice for the SAT,” he said.
“Do enough practice tests so that on the day of the exam you know exactly what's coming. No part of the SAT should surprise you. Start preparing as early as possible.”
Looking Toward the Future
Lin spends much of time on math-oriented efforts, including students math contests, national summer math and programming training camps and an economics research project focused on how best to establish the sharing of rivers between countries. Lin also plays the piano and enjoys learning about typography, calligraphy and languages.
As for his future, Lin is keeping his options open.
“I think staying in academia would be fun, but I’m going to keep my options open. My first priority is to learn, consider all of my options, and study something I’m interested in.”
