July 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Oxnard, CA - After nearly a year of anticipation, a new, state-of-the-art Target is scheduled to open July 24 at The Collection at RiverPark just off Highway 101.

The new Target will be unlike any in the region, featuring sleek contemporary design that matches the center’s aesthetic, under ground parking and a unique outdoor shopping-cart escalator for customer convenience.

At 140,000 square feet, the new Target will serve the everyday needs of the residents of RiverPark and surrounding communities. There currently are about 1,500 total homes and apartments at RiverPark, with several hundred more planned.

“We’ve been anxiously awaiting this day, and I know that this newly enlarged and upgraded Target will, like its predecessor, be among our resident's favorite places to shop,” said Dr. Thomas E. Holden, Mayor of Oxnard. "We, as a community, are very excited and can't wait for Target's doors to open."

Target, the nation’s third largest retailer, will become the first of four previously announced anchors at the 600,000-square-foot center. Also scheduled to open at The Collection are a Whole Foods Market, an REI store and a 16-screen Century Theatre.

“Although the recession has been difficult on everyone - especially those in the retail business - Target’s decision to open here now signals its faith in Oxnard as a wonderful place to do business well into the future,” Holden said.

Colm Macken, chief executive officer of Shea Properties, managing entity for RiverPark Collection, LLC, project developer, said he couldn’t be more enthusiastic about Target’s opening.

“Despite the challenges of the economy, we continue to move forward. We are excited about the opening of this Target and remain committed to bringing other world-class shops and restaurants to The Collection,” Macken said.

Although the retail market has been a challenge over the last couple years, interest in The Collection has remained steady. Macken says Target’s opening at The Collection is a positive sign for the region’s overall economy.

The Collection at RiverPark is situated along Highway 101 with tremendous visibility and easy access off Oxnard Boulevard. The center will also incorporate 60,000 square feet of unique office space above the retail on the main street as well as an extensive public art program and LEED certification.
