July 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Flexco recently made several enhancements to the Novitool® AERO™ Portable Splice Press that continue to improve belt fabrication, while making the tool more user-friendly. These enhancements include the addition of a quick release valve, increased bottom platen temperature control, and an upgrade to the flight case.

Easy to carry, easy to use

Instead of juggling several components on the jobsite and using valuable downtime to assemble the equipment, AERO users save time and money with only two components - a press and a power cord. With the AERO press, all the user needs to do is plug in the unit and get started.

The AERO press is also light, easy for one person to carry, and comes with a flight case for protection during storage and transportation. Additional foam has been added to the flight case for secure shipping and handling.

Endless splices in 8-12 minutes

The AERO features a quick cycle time – 8 to 12 minutes per splice. This translates to less downtime for the end-user, and more splices per hour in a belt fabrication workshop. Improved profitability can be a direct result of this high-speed efficiency.

“The overall quality of the splice is also determined by cycle time,” said Beth Miller, director of marketing for Flexco. “Quick warm-up time and quick cooking doesn’t just result in less downtime. It also means less belt degradation and less fabric shrinkage.”

If an operator wants to make a test splice to ensure they are using the right recipe, it only takes 8-12 minutes to test and adjust the splice.

The addition of a new quick release pressure valve gets belts up and running even more quickly. Instead of pressing and holding a button to slowly release air after a cycle, the new valve releases air almost instantly.

Convenient temperature and pressure controls

The AERO press features integrated digital controls for temperature and pressure. Intuitive display codes make for an improved user interface. The current settings are retained on the controllers from job to job, so that users with a single belt type only need to push the start button.

The top and bottom platens can be set to achieve different temperatures, instead of a single temperature. Recent improvements allow for bottom platen settings up to 99 percent lower than the top platen. This development makes the AERO ideal for belts with fabric backing. The thermoplastic top surface is melted, while the bottom is not discolored or scorched.

Several available sizes and voltages

Available in widths of 12”, 24”, 36”, 48”, and 60” (300 mm, 600 mm, 900 mm, 1200 mm, and 1500 mm), the AERO can be used in most conveyor operations. Users do not need to specify voltage for the AERO press since every unit accommodates 230V single-phase, 230V three-phase, 460V three-phrase, and 400V three-phase plus neutral. Users can select a single cable or multiple cables if they will be using the press with different power sources.

The AERO Portable Splice Press can be used in conjunction with other tools in the Novitool line, including the Pun M™ Mobile Finger Punch and the Ply 130™ Ply Separator. More information on the full line of endless splicing products can be found at http://www.flexco.com.
